One of the most famous bridges in the United States you can’t miss the Seven Mile bridge if you head south from Marathon. The bridge connects the middle keys (Knight’s Key) to the lower keys (Little Duck Key). No trip is complete without photos of this famous bridge and the beautiful views of and from it.
The “new” bridge was completed in 1982 and the old bridge was turned into a pedestrian walkway. The old bridge is currently under renovations that will be completed by the end of 2021 that will once again reopen it to foot and bicycle traffic and serve as another route to Pigeon Key.
DISTANCE: ~2 miles (4 minutes) from the house
FUN FACT: The older bridge, originally known as the Knights Key-Pigeon Key-Moser Channel-Pacet Channel Bridge, was constructed from 1909 to 1912 as part of the Florida East Coast Railway’s Key West Extension, also known as the Overseas Railroad.
