A short ferry ride to this 5-acre key with 8 buildings that are all on the National Register of Historic places is totally worth it.
The prices are reasonable and include not just the ferry ride but admission to a great museum on the island, and a guided tour of the key. During the tour, you will learn of Henry Flagler and his importance in the development of Florida and of the workers who stayed on this key while building the bridges to connect the keys in support of the Overseas Railroad Key West Extension.
DISTANCE: 0.5 mile (2 minutes) to the visitor center where you will get your tickets and pick up the ferry

FUN FACT: The workers who stayed on this island were many of the same responsible for building the Seven Mile Bridge, at one point considered the 8th Wonder of the World.
