Looe Key Reef is located about 12 miles south of Bahia Honda State Park Marina and offers a colorful reef and matching fish in 5-15′ of water.
Looe Key Reef is located within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and is within a Sanctuary Preservation Area (SPA). When visiting be sure to stay out of the “Research Only” parts of the key as those are there to protect some of the more fragile parts of the reef.
If that is a little further than how you like to travel by boat you can find many dive centers that run frequent trips to Looe Key on Big Pine and the surrounding keys.
DISTANCE: ~12 miles (15 minutes) from the house to Bahia Honda State Park
FUN FACT: The reef is named after HMS Looe, which ran aground on the reef and sank in 1744.
