Horseshoe Beach is located off of Mile Marker 35 in Big Pine Key (make your first right crossing the bridge) and is the result of a quarry that was dug when the Overseas Railroad was built.
It gets about 30′ deep in the middle and is great for swimming and snorkeling thanks to the protection offered by its shape. They also have a little boardwalk that you can walk to the old bridge and check out the wildlife around you.
There can be a good bit of seagrass and there isn’t a ton of sand, so make sure you bring a beach chair but it is definitely worth checking out to have fun in the water or to even catch a great view of a sunset.
DISTANCE: ~14 miles (20 minutes) from the house
